Established in 1985, The Dressing Up Shop has been providing Aldershot, Farnham, Farnborough, Fleet, Camberley and the surrounding areas with fancy dress fun for 31 years!
Owner, Manager and all-round creative genius Shirlee Gibbs began her career as a window dresser by trade, with years of seamstress experience also under her belt ( started in school! ), she embarked on a fulfilling journey combining the two art forms. From making costumes at home for friends and family, she then entered the exciting world of running her own independent business.
Based in the High Street for over 20 years the shop has since been on the move, first to the Arcade before development changes opened up an exciting oppurtunity in Wellington Street, one of the town's pedestranised shopping venues.
We are lucky to call Edgar Jeromes', one of Aldershots longest running businesses ( 90 years and counting ) our next door neighbours, along with other varied retailers.
We pride ourselves on our one to one personal service, from the moment you walk in your needs are our first priority. After all, visiting us is the first step to party shenanigans!
Whatever the theme, size or item you need, we have the experience and knowledge to fulfill your fancy dress fantasy. Even if you're not to sure or a little shy, we love a challenge ;-)
Our hiring section is immensely varied and is constantly growing and adapting to trends, among our products to purchase are Licensed costumes and accessories including Disney, Marvel, Star Wars and more. We are constantly sourcing new and exciting products and are able to order in items quickly.
Shirlee
Manager
The genius creator! Shirlee started her career as a window dresser, and after making costumes from home decided to branch out and opened her own shop in Aldershot in 1985. She has been designing, creating and expanding the shop’s varied stock ever since.
A constant font of creativity, over the years she has been a keen contributor and indeed volunteer in many of Aldershot’s cultural and charitable events.
She has a passion for Halloween like no other but is also a fan of the Regency period.
Kelly
Assistant Manager
Enthusiastic, creative and with a healthy obsession for wigs, Kelly will serve you with boundless energy and advice to make your costume choice as easy and as fun as possible, she also takes care of the shops site, Facebook page, twitter and other technical jiggery -pokery.
Her favourite fancy dress era’s include: 1920’s, 1940’s and Rococo.
